The new range of boxer twins was revealed in late 1969. The "/5" (slash five, or stroke five) series had a new frame, 12 volt electrics with starter motor, telescopic front forks and a twin leading shoe front brake.

Initially handling was problematical at speed and a longer swingarm was fitted in late 1973.

The /6 arrived in 1974 with numerous improvements.
