Ariel Pixie

Ariel Pixie

Designed by Val Page, the Pixie was the last from the drawing board of the man responsible for the Ariel Leader, the BSA Gold Star and Brough Superior SS100 engines.

Page's OHC design was modified (possibly to cut costs) and the result was a 50cc version of the BSA Beagle 75.

Revealed in 1962, the Pixie was sold from 1963 to 1965. Produced at the BSA factory in Small Heath using antiquated tooling, it proved uncompetitive with the cheap and reliable Honda lightweights pouring out of the Japanese factories in their tens of thousands.

A forum comment from an Ariel dealer of the time reads "When we sold them new they were soon called the Poxy Pixie!"
