A Brief History of the German Marque
Manufacturer: Auto Industrie AG, Dusseldorf-Moersenbroich
The firm was founded in May 1923 by several Düsseldorf businessmen who established Anker-Backwerke AG earlier in the year.
Between 1924 and 1925 the factory constructed mostly lightweight two-strokes of 125 to 200cc, but also built a 496cc MAG-engined motorcycle. One model is described thus: 2 1/2 hp 2-stroke engine with 3 speed gearbox, kickstarter, clutch - this belt drive machine was eligible for the tax- and license-free class.
The onset of hyperinflation forced the company's closure.
In February 1925 "Dümo" Düsseldorfer Motorenfabrik GmbH was registered at the same address.
The Dümo was a sporting variation of the Autinag fitted with chain drive. The Autinag brand continued to be marketed, and was advertised until late 1926. The company was disolved in 1929.
