Edmund Motorcycles 1911

Charles Edmund, Park gate, Chester (No. 257a).

The interesting part of the motor bicycle on this stand is the system of springing. A padded seat is fixed on a bar parallel with the frame top tube, and over it, and at right angles to it there is a tube which slides inside the middle tube connected with the horizontal bar by means of a link. The continuation of the latter is a laminated spring which is itself linked to two laminated springs, one on each side of the back forks. To the bar running through the saddle tube the footrests are fitted so that the whole of the rider's body is absolutely insulated from road shocks, thus rendering the riding most comfortable. The front forks are hinged at the bottom of the steering column on ball bearings. At the fork ends are two upright compression rods which are linked to the rest of the fork by means of a laminated spring.
