Edward Turner born in Camberwell, London, on the day King Edward VII was crowned.
He conceived the Square Four engine in 1928, adopted by Ariel the following year. In 1936 he became General Manager and Chief Designer at Triumph.

Glenn Curtiss achieved 136.27 mph (219.31 km/h) on Ormond Beach, Florida riding a V8 motorcycle. "Bullets are the only rivals of Glenn H. Curtiss of Hammondsport," stated a 1907 newspaper. This machine is now in the Smithsonian Museum and featured in the Guggenheim's Art of the Motorcycle exhibition.
