Preface
Since edition 2.0 the NTD Parts Database is divided up into several
tables (see Description of Tables). This was done
to improve handling, correctness and the amount of data with a noticably
increased amount information included. As a little disadvantage only those
using MS-Access (or with a little effort maybe other databases of similar
capabilities) can use the benefits of "coupled" tables. All those who intend
to use the NTD database often and intensively should therefore preferably
employ MS-Access. On the other hand you can of course use several other
programs (e.g. MS-Excel, MS-Works or DBase) as well. You will find the
DBase files version in my download area because it´s the easiest
to import into most programms. The genuine MS-Access version is available
on demand via email-order.
Coupled Tables (Table Relations)
(Only applicable with MS-Access, s.o.)
With the help of coupled tables you can view information from different
tables concerning one part on a single screen (form). The form "Teile -
Haupt" (Parts - Main) shows the basic part infos as well as the parts use,
parts reference and sub-parts (if the part is an assembly). The tables
"Verwendung" (Use), "Referenzen" (References)
und "Baugruppen" (Assemblies) "know" which part from
the table "Teile" (Parts) is viewed at the moment
and show their info too. Without this feature you´ve got to pick
the info out of each table separately.
