József Bory was born in 1876 in Aba, near Székesfehérvár, a city 60 km south-west of Budapest. His father was a blacksmith. József learnt his craft at his father's shop. By 1901 he was a trained mechanic and blacksmith. At around 1903 he built his first motorcycle. A later year he received a grant and travelled to Germany where he worked at the Berliner Motorwagen Fabrik. He returned to Hungary in 1906 and based on his experience, he wanted to set up his own automobile factory. He applied for government subsidy. In the form he claimed that he was able to build 3-4 motorcycles a years. In 1908 he built a small car as well, but that was the end of his vehicle building activities. Probably less than 10 Bory Compact motorcycles were built.
